Each of Sioux City's public high schools and middle schools has its own police officer. The school resource officers provide any necessary law enforcement services. The school district meets routinely with the police department to discuss security procedures and protocol.
The Sioux City city council has finished its first read through of the $272-million capital improvements budget for the next five years. The plan includes $25-million to help develop a downtown casino. The council will meet next Wednesday to review a few of the funding proposals they earmarked. They'll vote to approve the finalized CIP February 25th.
ArtSplash is making another move. The annual Labor Day weekend festival in Sioux City will be held in Riverside Park this year. Organizers say that will allow for more vendors, more parking, and more shade. ArtSplash has been held at Grandview Park the past two years. It was moved there from the riverfront after the flood of 2011.
