SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Western Iowa Tech Community College is hoping voters will support a tax levy that pours $400,000 a year into its classrooms.
In 2011, a tax levy used to fund the college's facilities was approved by voters.
The latest tax levy on the ballot would fund equipment within the classroom.
WIT's president says the funding is essential, and not having it would have a negative impact on student learning.
"We would be stuck in the situation at times that we're trying to train folks on equipment that is not what they would see when they get out in the field and/or may not give them the skills that they need to be able to properly do what they need to do," said Terry Murrell, WITCC President.
For each dollar paid in property taxes, a taxpayer gives one-sixth of a penny towards the levy tax.
Voting is February 5th at the Longlines Center, with absentee voting on January 29th and 30th at the WITCC bookstore.
