SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Court officials say a plea agreement has been reached in the case of James Kroll. The 23-year-old faced charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder and first-degree burglary for June 13th attack inside a Sioux City home. Authorities say Kroll broke into Mary Tope's home and attacked Tope and her boyfriend, 54-year-old Jeffrey Moravek, while they slept. Moravek died of his injuries.
Court documents filed today show Kroll will plead guilty to murder in the second degree and attempted murder on Tuesday, January 22nd in Woodbury County Court. As part of that agreement, James Kroll could face a maximum sentence of 75 years in prison.
Kroll's trial was originally scheduled for January 29th.
