Bryce Parks eats, sleeps and breathes 365 Ink. That's his business in Dubuque which includes a bi-weekly paper publication, a web site called Dubuque 365 and media design and production.
The main point of both the publication and the web site is quite simple: tell people what's going on.
"What's going on in our area that you can then go participate in. So not just what's happening, but can I then engage in what's happening," said Bryce Parks.
Parks said it all started with wanting to spread the word about upcoming Jaycees events so he and others created a web site, which grew into this paper publication in October of 2000.
"I think so often you hear about stuff the day after it happened and think I wish I would of known about that. That's totally where we came from. How do we make sure people know the day before instead of the day after," said Parks.
Every other week, 10,000 copies of 365 Ink go out. It's free to anyone in the Dubuque area. Parks works closely with non-profits, spreading information about events at no cost to the organizations.
"Because if it's a success, it'll happen again and more event like it can happen next time," said Parks.
The media design portion of the business also makes and prints event posters for non-profits for free.
Besides 365 Ink, Parks is the lead organizer of Toys for Tots in the Dubuque area. He helps make sure about 5,000 children in a three county area get toys for Christmas.
"My dad ran Toys for Tots for years in Dubuque. He passed away from cancer, and when he did I inherited a big red truck and a whole lot of work. But it's very gratifying so I do it in his honor," said Bryce Parks.
Parks said his dad is one of the people who taught him the importance of giving back to your community, which is exactly what he strives to do every day.
"Bryce is very admirable. I have no idea how he does everything he does for the community," said 365 Ink Lead Designer Kristina Nesteby.
Parks said he doesn't operate 365 Ink to get rich, he does it to help enhance the quality of life in his community.
Besides helping to promote numerous events, Bryce Parks can also be seen volunteering at many of those events.
When he's not volunteering, working at 365 Ink or organizing Toys for Tots, he also plays in a band called Boomtangle.
