LAWTON, Iowa (KTIV) -

The Lawton-Bronson Eagles are one of two Siouxland teams that are still undefeated on the season.

And at 17-0, the Eagles have the best record in the state.

It's tied for the best start in school history for Lawton-Bronson.

The last time the Eagles started 17-0 was nearly two decades ago, when they made it to the state tournament in 1996. That's also the only appearance the team has made in the tournament.

They lost to Wapsie Valley in the quarter finals that year.

With all the talent on this year's squad, the Eagles are hoping to raise a banner in their gym this season.

"The main thing is they know each others roles very well.  They're not a "me" guy at all. They play well as a team and they know what to do to win a game,"Head Coach Vince Johnson said.

"We can't be satisfied," Senior Austin Lefler said. "We've had a great run and we're the regular season conference champs, but that wasn't our huge main goal coming into the season. You know, we want to win districts, we want to be district champions, we want to make it to sub-state we want to get at that. We made it to the district finals two years ago and we came up short. I think we're hungry."
