Clinton Grilled Over Benghazi

Posted:

Republicans in Congress took on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Wednesday, grilling her about the deadly September 11th terrorist attack on the U.S. Mission in Benghazi, Libya.

Clinton testified in back to back House and Senate committee hearings.

Republicans blamed her for failing to lead in the face of threatened attacks.

"With all these warnings - all these things - we didn't have a single Department of Defense asset apparently available to come to their rescue," pointed out Senator John McCain.

From questions about a lack of security, to accusations the administration deceived the public,
Republicans came on strong.

Clinton stood her ground, trying to explain why United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice told the media the attack was related to a controversial video.

"With all due respect - the fact is - we had four dead Americans!  Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided they'd go kill some Americans? What difference, at this point, does it make? It is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can - to prevent it from ever happening again," an emotional Clinton replied.

Republican lawmakers found little satisfaction in her answers.

Clinton says the department is now making more than two dozen changes to address security and leadership inadequacies found in an independent report.

She described the situation as complicated, and said some questions about the attack still remain unanswered.
