Some northeast Nebraska farmers will have to operate under new irrigation restrictions starting this year. Thursday night, the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District Board approved new rules for parts of Madison, Pierce and Wayne Counties. Farmers will be limited as to how much water they can use and they'll have to install groundwater measuring equipment to monitor water levels. The restrictions are the result of hundreds of complaints the board received last summer about wells going dry.
Students at Cardinal Elementary in South Sioux City got a special visit on Thursday. Nebraska's first lady Sally Ganem spoke to kids about finding out what they love and then pursuing their dreams. Ganem, a former elementary principal and teacher, also reminded students about the importance of reading and donated some books to the school library.
