SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
He's a native of Sioux City. He's the most-decorated living war veteran. And now he's on the cover of a magazine!
Check out the March issue of Smithsonian Air & Space. That's the legendary Col. George "Bud" Day standing in front of an F-100, the Vietnam-era fighter jet that used to be flown by Sioux City's Air National Guard unit.
The article is called "Extraordinary Vets: Tough Pilots and F-100s." Col. Day is about as tough as they come. He's a veteran of World War Two, Korea and Vietnam, where his plane was shot down and he was held as a prisoner of war for five years. Day holds a Purple Heart, the Air Force Cross, and the Medal of Honor.
