Collins family joins lawmaker in Des Moines to reveal death penalty bill

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

A Republican lawmaker is introducing a bill to bring back the death penalty in Iowa.

The parents of Elizabeth Collins joined Senator Kent Sorenson from Milo at the announcement at the capitol Friday.

Sorenson says in the bill, the death penalty would be limited to people convicted of first-degree murder where a victim was kidnapped or sexually abused or if the victim were a child.

Sorenson says he'll also propose four other measures dealing with kidnapping and sex offense convictions.

The chairman of a senate panel says he won't consider the bill, but Sorenson says he'll seek public hearings.
