Official: Games turn-out expected to be on par with previous years
Saturday's mild weather brought ouT the crowds at the University of Okoboji Winter Games in the Iowa Great Lakes.
"This is going to be a great year for us. We typically expect to have between 40 and 50-thousand people come out and take advantage of the games and we're looking at being close to that number this year," said Games Chairperson Erin Roe.
The cold conditions that led up to the games made the lake perfect for all of the traditional activities. Roe says they haven't seen this much ice in several years.
While they were able to move everything back on the ice, the Great Lakes are lacking snow. So, Roe says they didn't see as many snowmobilers as usual.
Still, the games attracted people from as far away as Florida.
