Hawks fall in overtime at Purdue

The Iowa Hawkeyes weathered a frigid shooting start and were right there in the end against Purdue.

Their come from behind effort, once again, came up just short.

The Hawks fell 65-62 in overtime Sunday after another gritty comeback attempt.

It didn't start pretty for Fran McCaffery's bunch.

Iowa hit just four field goals in the game's first 20 minutes, shooting just 15 percent, and trailing 19-16 at halftime.

Iowa fell behind double-digits in the second half before freshman Mike Gesell helped lead his team back.

Gesell finished with a game high 18 points, including 15 in the second half.

Iowa took its first lead with under three minutes left in the game.  Aaron White finished off a fast break with a three point play, making it 51-50.

Iowa had a chance to win it at the end of regulation, but Devyn Marble, who shot just 2/11 from the field, missed a short runner, and Gabe Olaseni missed a tip back as time expired.

In overtime, Ronnie Johnson hit a runner to put Purdue up 61-59, and the Boilers never looked back.
