Allow some extra time for your Monday morning commute. Thick fog has rolled into Siouxland and it's going to be sticking around for several hours. All of Siouxland is under a dense fog advisory until noon. You're also advised to watch for patchy slick spots on roads and sidewalks.
They say home is where the heart is and there was a lot of heart in one Siouxland home. On Sunday, a blessing and dedication were held for the home of Todd and Jaime Lenz in Riv-R-Land Estates. The couple had just bought their new house two years ago when it was destroyed by the Missouri River flood. More than 100 volunteers from Redeemer Lutheran Church spent the past ten months building a new home on the site.
Service will be the focus at Sioux City's Catholic schools this week. "Catholic Schools Week" teaches students about giving back. Students will take part in service projects like collecting pennies for the Siouxland Humane Society and helping residents of local nursing homes. School officials say besides faith and academics, they want to instill in kids a sense of being life-long learners and givers.
One of Siouxland's coolest events took place this weekend at the Iowa Great Lakes. The 33rd annual University of Iowa's Winter Games brought winter lovers to the ice. Broomball is the biggest attraction, but there are lots of other outdoor and indoor activities. Organizers say this winter's cold weather made for perfect ice. They estimate that between 40,000 and 50,000 people were on hand for this year's games.
