Sac County murder suspect enters plea to charges

EARLY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Sac County court documents show Kirk Levin has pleaded not guilty to murder and kidnapping charges. Levin entered the plea in written form on Monday.

Levin is charged with first degree murder and kidnapping. Police say the 21-year-old killed his mother in her Early, Iowa home at the beginning of January, before kidnapping Jessica Vega, of Storm Lake. Vega escaped. Sac County sheriff's deputies say they found 45-year-old Marilyn Schmitt's body in her home during an investigation.

Levin's next court appearance has not be set yet.
