County supervisors draw a name to determine winner in Oto, IA city council race

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

In a special election in Oto, Iowa on January 22nd, voters elected a new mayor and two new members to its city council.  However, one of those races ended in a tie.

Elizabeth Swearingen and Matt Mead tied with 12 votes a piece for one of the city council positions.  Tuesday, the Woodbury County of Supervisors literally drew a name to determine that Matt Mead, the write-in candidate, will fill the position. 

Jennifer Weber was elected to the other council position and Kevin Rayevich will be the new mayor of Oto, Iowa.
