This winter may seem harsher than last year, but for at least two Eastern Iowa cities, both winters have demanded about the same amount of salt.
Mark Rice with the Waterloo Streets Department said that the city had used 1,800 tons of salt so far this winter.
Rice says this is comparable with last year at this time. The department is just almost out of last year's salt supply, but more is already on the way.
It's a similar story in Dubuque, where Street and Sewer Supervisor John Klostermann says Dubuque has used about 2,055.5 tons of salt so far. During the same period last year, Dubuque used 2,111.7 tons.
