CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The City of Cedar Rapids says no more electronic billboards -- at least for now.

Friday morning the city council passed a resolution establishing a temporary moratorium on billboards and digital signs for 180 days.

The City of Cedar Rapids has received 15 new sign applications since the first of the year -- a 19 percent increase.

Some say the signs can be a distraction to drivers.

The city council wants a moratorium on these types of signs until proposed code updates are implemented.
