Voters to cast ballots on two school issues in Woodbury County

Western Iowa Tech Community College is hoping voters will support a tax levy... that pours $400-thousand a year into its classrooms.  In 2011, voters approved a tax levy used to fund the college's facilities.  WIT president Terry Murrell says without the levy, students might be left with equipment that they may not see in the field, which may not give them the skills they need.  For each dollar paid in property taxes, a taxpayer gives one-sixth of a penny towards the levy tax.

Also on the ballot, Tuesday, a special election to full a seat on the Sioux City Community School Board.  John Meyers has served in that seat since Nancy Mounts resigned a little over a year ago due to health reasons.  Meyers, and three others, are running for the seat... including Paul Speidel, Jacqueline Ritter, and Paul Gorski.

If you intend to vote in this special election, listen up.  There are only a handful of places you can cast your ballot... and where you live will determine where you vote.  If you live in the Sioux City Community School district, you will vote for the school board vacancy, and the WIT levy, and you can only do that at the Woodbury County courthouse.

If you live in the Westwood Community School District, you'll cast ballots for the WIT levy, and a vacancy on the Westwood school board, and can only do so at the Sloan Community Hall, in Sloan.  Voters in the Lawton-Bronson, Maple Valley-Anthon Oto, River Valley, Sergeant Bluff-Luton and Woodbury Central School Districts will only vote on the WIT levy, and will need to go to the Anthon Community Center, in Anthon, on election day.  Polls at the three locations will be open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, Tuesday.
