SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- -
There are just four undefeated boys teams left in Iowa's Class 4A and Sioux City East is one of them. The Black Raiders are 18-0 and have clinched the Missouri River Conference title.
East was 21-5 last season, losing in the 4A championship game to undefeated Iowa City West.
Marcel Dunson leads this team in scoring at over 17 points per game, which ranks sixth in Class 4A. Three of East's last four wins have been by ten points or less but they all still went up in the win column.
"This group of kids kind of has a will to win. They figure out ways to win, all imaginable ways, good and bad," Head Coach Ras Vanderloo said. "But they're winners. I don't know if we have a group of all-state players or not, but they're a group of winners."
"We just never give up. We just seem to always come back and get back in games," senior Marcel Dunson added. "Right now, we're at the point where we need to get better, increase our game a little bit and keep winning games."
"Find a way to win," said East junior Wyatt Mounts. "That's what our coaches have been preaching and that's what we've done. Just find a way to win. We hope to continue to do that."
East has a busy week with three games in the next five days. The Raiders play their final home game of the season on Tuesday against Fort Dodge, then go to LeMars on Thursday and visit North on Friday.
