SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
A week after announcing a deal to move forward with the Liberty Industrial Park Project and a new interchange on I-29, county leaders formally accepted the agreement, Tuesday.
The county will help pay for a study to put an interchange near Sioux City's Southbridge Industrial Park.
In exchange, the city will support the county as it moves forward to create an urban renewal area south of the city limits.
Talks broke down twice before, when the county decided not to support the study, causing the city to withdraw its support of Liberty Park.
"You know we've done this road a couple times before and there might have been a lot of misunderstandings in the past. I think that's all been cleared up, and hopefully we'll just move forward," said Larry Clausen, the chair of the Board of Supervisors.
The deal was brokered by C-F Industries. Officials cite the company's desire to spur community-wide economic development with their own one point seven billion dollar expansion at Port Neal .
This agreement now goes to the city council for its approval on Monday.
