It takes hours for volunteers to put together these apples for the Siouxland Humane Society.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
When you think of Valentine's Day, you probably think of something sweet.
There was plenty of sweet, candy goodness to go around Tuesday, as dozens of volunteers came out to help the Siouxland Humane Society, put together their Gourmet Double Chocolate Carmel Apples.
As the name suggests, volunteers start with tart green apples and dip them in caramel. Then, the apples are dipped and drizzled with different chocolates and toffee.
From there, the apples get wrapped up and sent out.
"And they're all hand-dipped and done. Lots and lots of time of energy and man hours that actually going into making the finished product," said Julie Skaff-Gregg, a volunteer.
"We've been doing this with the Humane Society for as long as they've been decorating apples. My whole office comes down, we get together and we're trying to give back to our community," said Skaff-Gregg.
These $15 creations are the Siouxland Humane Society's biggest fundraiser. The money helps with medical expense and providing food for animals.
