Homer celebrates after winning the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament on Monday.
HOMER, NEB. (KTIV) -
The Homer girls are looking for their third straight trip to the Nebraska state basketball tournament. The Knights are ranked second in Class C2 with a 19 and 2 record, and beat another ranked team on Monday.
Homer earned a 17-point win over Wynot in the championship game of the Lewis and Clark Conference tournament. Wynot is the second-ranked team in Class D2.
The Knights only two losses are to ranked teams from Guardian Angels Central Catholic and Pender, each by just three points.
"There's four new starters so I thought there would be more peaks and valleys but they've played pretty consistent all year,," said Homer head coach Merlyn Tremayne. "Hopefully this a good time to peak and hopefully we keep playing well as we go forward into districts."
Winning a state title is the ultimate goal, but winning the conference title is also a big accomplishment.
"It's a big deal," adds coach Tremayne. "There's a lot of good teams, a lot of ranked teams in the conference, a 14-team league. We feel real happy. There's a lot of good teams we had to get through to get here so feel real happy about what we accomplished."
Homer will host Ponca on Friday to end the regular season.
