VERMILLION, S.D. (KTIV) -
A former University of South Dakota student is suing a fraternity and some of its members, after he says he was injured in an alleged hazing incident.
In court documents, Matthew Cronan said he was encouraged to binge drink to prepare for a pledge skit in February of 2010. It was an event being held at Sigma Nu.
Court documents show after Cronan finished his skit, he started showing signs of dangerous impairment. He says, he was "unaided and unsupervised" when he collapsed while walking up a flight of stairs.
Some of the fraternity members did take him to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury. He's seeking damages in excess of $300,000.
According to the school's newspaper the fraternity closed in December.
