X's manager Stan Cliburn has re-signed Peter Barrows and released Ray Serrano, Ryan Priddy and Nick Schumacher.
SIOUX CITY -- -
With Spring Training almost three months away, the Sioux City Explorers are beginning to re-sign a small core of players from the 2012 squad. The X's have announced the signing of outfielder, Peter Barrows. The 2013 season will mark Barrows second year in Sioux City and third overall in professional baseball.
Joining the team in late June, after the team was in need of an outfielder with Michael Lang signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Barrows stepped right in and had a huge impact offensively for the squad. In 61 games, the 25-year-old hit .284 with 11 home runs, 18 doubles and four triples. With 67 hits, he drove in 48 runs, while also crossing the plate 34 times. He was second on the team in home runs and triples, playing in nearly 30 fewer games.
"We are excited to have the young power hitter back for 2013," commented X's Field Manager, Stan Cliburn. "He brings the long ball into our game as a consistent threat."
The Explorers have also announced the release of veteran INF Ryan Priddy, veteran catcher Ray Serrano and RHP Nick Schumacher.
"Releasing these three players was hard, as they all became fan favorites and staples in the community," stated Cliburn. "Going 45-55 last season is not acceptable and changes needed to be made. We are looking to keep a small core of players from 2012 and with the help from Nick (Belmonte), build a more competitive squad for 2013."
The Sioux City Explorers will kick off their 21st season on Saturday, May 4th when players report for Spring Training. The 2013 Home Opener will be Thursday, May 16th versus the Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants.
