The house had been used for firefighter training and was going to be burned down eventually
NEAR SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
There is no word yet on what started a fire at an abandoned house outside Sioux City early Friday morning. The call came in around 3:30 a.m. at 1555 170th Street, east of Whispering Creek. Firefighters found the empty house engulfed in flames when they arrived on the scene. The flames had ignited a grass fire.
The Sioux City Fire Department reports the old house had been used by the Sergeant Bluff Fire Department for firefighter training and plans were to burn it down eventually anyway.
Sergeant Bluff firefighters came out and spelled off the Sioux City crews. The fire was extinguished, but it's not known yet what started it.
