"Empty Bowls" raises money, awareness for Food Bank of Siouxland
Many ate soup for the Food Bank of Siouxland's 9th "Empty Bowls" fundraiser.
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE (KTIV) -
It's something many of us may take for granted. But, not everyone is able to sit down at a dinner table and have a hot meal.
Friday night, the Food Bank of Siouxland hosted it's 9th "Empty Bowls" fundraiser. The event raises money, and awareness, of the Food Bank's mission to feed the hungry.
People dined on a variety of soups from area restaurants, and bid on items up for auction. Guests also take home hand-made bowls donated by students, community members, and local artists to remind them of the meaning of the event.
"It's enormous to me to see so many people that want to be here, that want to support the work of the food bank. Who say yes to the challenge of making sure that every Siouxlander has enough to eat," said Linda Scheid, Executive Director for the Food Bank of Siouxland.
Last year, the Food Bank distributed over 1-million pounds of food to 111 charities in Siouxland. KTIV's Christy Batien was the Emcee for the evening.
