SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Plastic bags are hazardous, that's what a member of the Sioux City League of Women Voters wants you to know.

Renee Weinberg is leading an effort to educate people about how plastic bags harm the environment.

As part of that effort, the league held a screening of "Bag It" a documentary about where some grocery bags end up when they're not thrown away or recycled properly.

"If you've driven around town I did yesterday quite a bit, and you look in the fields, on the fence post, if you look in the trees, they are pretty much everywhere," Renee Weinberg with the Sioux City League of Woman Voters said.

The league is also advocating for Sioux City and South Sioux City to cut down or ban plastic bags to become more eco-friendly.
