PIERRE, S.D. (KTIV) -
South Dakota Department of Transportation officials say Interstate 29 between Sioux Falls and the North Dakota border is now open. However, Interstate
29 in North Dakota from the South Dakota border to Fargo remains closed
at this time. It is uncertain when that section will be open.
Department of Transportation officials say there
are limited facilities to accommodate travelers at the state line.
Those facilities are currently at or near capacity and drivers heading to North Dakota should consider
postponing travel plans until the Interstate in North Dakota re-opens.
Interstate 90 was opened earlier Monday morning. Motorists are reminded that highways in central and eastern South Dakota are snow-packed, ice-covered and slippery. There are also areas of blowing and drifting snow and drivers are being asked to slow down and drive with extreme caution.
Clean-up work continues and travelers are reminded to give snowplows plenty of room to work.
