Pilot dies from injuries suffered in plane crash near Correctionville, IA


The man, who was piloting a small plane that crashed near Correctionville, Iowa, in December, has died from the injuries he suffered.

Services for 70-year-old Gaylen Knaack are pending at the Jensen Funeral Home, in Correctionville. An obituary on the funeral home's website says Knaack died Monday in the burn unit of Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Federal investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash on December 1st. Investigators say Knaack was flying the plane when it crashed into a farm field near Little Sioux Park.

Knaack's two passengers-- 53-year-old Lee Schroeder, of Anthon, and 55-year-old James Smith, of Correctionville-- died in the crash.
