ANKENY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Iowa's state fire marshal is announcing Tuesday grants that will pay for the purchase and installation of smoke alarms in homes across the state.
Ray Reynolds says his goal is to make sure that every Iowa child grows up in a home with smoke alarms.
Storm Lake, Denison, and Sioux City are among the communities that will benefit from two grants totaling nearly $300,000.
$245,000 of that comes from the federal government.
$50,000 is from State Farm Insurance.
In all, the grants will pay for more than $11,600 smoke alarms in Iowa this year.
