Woodbury County is considering consolidation of its precincts for upcoming local elections.
The move would save Sioux City money for its city council primary and November election.
A typical city election costs $20,000. Auditor Pat Gill said the city stands to save $5,000 to $10,000.
Proposed sites are the three middle schools and Long Lines Family Rec Center. The idea went through a test run for the school board vote earlier this month.
"We had some people say that by limiting the number of polling places we were suppressing the vote, but by notifying people that they could vote by mail we increased participation," Gill explained.
Auditor Pat Gill says he would also like to include the September school board election, but still has to meet with school leaders.
By law, all precincts have to be open for state and national elections.
