SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Woodbury County leaders have signed off on creating a taxing district related to the CF Industries expansion.
The urban renewal district will put new tax revenue collected from the project towards infrastructure improvements in the area, specifically, a $4.4-million road leading from Port Neal to the CF campus.
The county's portion is $1.4-million.
"Without this agreement, without this action today, by the board, we would have had an issue with general obligation bonds, and had a public vote in order to raise that $1.4 million dollars," said Rural Economic Development Director Rob Marqusee.
The supervisors threatened not to support the measure because of concerns with communication between board members over the Liberty Industrial Park, which will eventually become part of the urban renewal area.
