The search for the next Superintendent of the Norfolk, Nebraska public school district is down to five finalists.
Whoever the board chooses for the position, will replace outgoing Superintendent Dr. Marlene Uhing who is retiring at the end of June.
Out of the five candidates that were announced by school officials Thursday, three of them are from Siouxland while two others are from outside the area.
The candidates include Bill Robinson of Norfolk, who is the current director of business services for Norfolk Public Schools, Jon Cerny is the current superintendent at Bancroft-Rosalie schools.Wayne Kindle is currently the high school principal in Yankton, South Dakota.
Jami Jo Thompson is the director of school programs in Beatrice, Nebraska, and Michael Roth is currently serving a superintendent's position in Clearwater, Kansas.
Norfolk Public Schools leaders say all five will be in Norfolk next week to participate in interviews with school staff and the board of education.
Officials hope to have a new superintendent ready to announce in April. Whoever it is will then have around two months to prepare.
Current NPS Superintendent Dr. Marlene Uhing's retirement will be effective at the end of June.
