UPDATE: Storm Lake, IA child receives liver after being left off list

STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) -

Montserrat Flores was visiting family in Storm Lake over the holidays when she became gravely ill.

She needed a liver transplant, but because she's from Mexico, she couldn't get on the transplant list.

Her aunt and uncle adopted Montserrat, which opened the door to getting the liver she needed.

When her condition took a turn for the worse, she was moved up on the transplant list, and last Thursday, she had the live-saving operation.

Her aunt Gracie Vrieze says Montserrat is doing very well.

She turned 20-months on Saturday.
