WASHINGTON (KTIV) -
In a statement that Senator Mike Johanns released Monday, says he and his wife, Stephanie have made a decision not to seek re-election.
He says he is appreciative for the friendship and support that Nebraskans have given him over the past three decades.
Johanns says at the end of this term, we will have been in public service over 32 years.
Between the two of us, we have been on the ballot for primary and general elections 16 times and we have served in eight offices.
Johanns joined the U.S. Senate in 2009.
He served as agriculture secretary under President George W. Bush and was Nebraska's governor from 1999 to 2005.
