SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
A mother has filed a civil lawsuit months after her son was killed in a hit-and-run accident along a Sioux City street.
Back in September, police say 22-year-old Lance Knudsen was struck as he crossed Floyd Boulevard.
A Chevy Blazer, which is registered to Victoria Ernst of Sioux City, was found later, and police connected the SUV to the accident. However, police haven't identified Ernst as the driver. The person, police believe caused the accident, has not been charged.
Knudsen's mother, Mischelle De Cora, has filed a negligence lawsuit against Ernst, and the unidentified driver. Court documents allege the driver was negligently operating the vehicle causing the collision. She's suing for the money Knudsen would have earned, funeral and burial expenses, along with "loss of companionship."
De Cora wants a jury trial. A trial date hasn't been set.
