Sioux City road crews are preparing for the storm that's expected to bring a half-foot of snow to the area Thursday. Crews will work 12-hour shifts and will start by clearing the priority one streets. Field Services Director Brian Fahrenholz says they'll have 60 vehicles working on the roads to keep them clear and are stocked up with plenty of salt.
The Sioux City city council wraps up budget talks saying that a tax hike and job cuts cannot be avoided. The spending plan for the next fiscal year includes a $45 increase in property taxes for the average homeowner. The police department would lose one sergeant's position and the fire department will lose its public education officer through attrition. The council will vote to approve the operating budget and capital improvement budget next Monday.
Orange City and Alton, Iowa are partnering up on a project to improve their parks and trails. Tuesday night, a full house was on hand as an architect unveiled three designs to develop the Dunlap Wildlife Area, trails, and Roadside Park. The project would include expansion of the fishing ponds and docks, new playground equipment, campsites, a disc golf course, and amphitheater. They'll apply for a Vision Iowa Grant and hope to have it completed within two years.
