The potential for winter weather is leading to some cancellations

Posted:

The threat of severe winter weather is causing those who are planning events for Thursday and Friday to plan ahead and consider the potential circumstances.

That includes the Norfolk, Nebraska area where some events have already been canceled or postponed.

While the weather is just cold and breezy here Wednesday morning, 24 hours from now we may see a whole different picture.

While we did see around an inch of snowfall last week here in the Norfolk area, we need to go back to mid to late December to find measurable snowfall in the multiple inch range.

The potential is leading some who are planning events to err on the side of caution.

The office of U.S. Senator Mike Johanns says they are canceling his community coffee in Norfolk Thursday morning due to pending weather.

Sports is being affected too.

The Boys C1-4 and D2-6 sub district basketball finals are being held Wednesday night instead of Thursday and the Norfolk High girls are also playing Wednesday night instead of Thursday.

And, even the mighty Big Red have been effected by mother nature.

The Nebraska Cornhusker Men's Basketball game in Lincoln with Iowa has been moved from Thursday to Saturday.

As for local storm preparations, both city officials and the state roads department will be working Wednesday to lay liquid de-icer to help pre-treat the roadways.

KTIV's US92 Norfolk Bureau will have more on preparations coming up on News Four.
