Architectural designs of a new Hoover Elementary School.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Sioux City School board members got their first look at architectural renderings of the Hoover Elementary project.
The old Hoover Middle school off of Hamilton Boulevard will be the new site to replace Clark, Crescent Park, and Lincoln Elementary.
The new design would create a school big enough to hold 650 students.
While no action will be taken until March the board is considering bid packages that could mean demolition work gets underway in August.
"We know that between now and 2019 we have enough funds for two more projects after Westside, and after Washington, one of those is very likely Hoover, we've put a great deal of work in on Hoover," Sioux City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Paul Gausman.
The group also discussed the future of Bryant school.
The district's building and oversight committee looked at two concepts and is recommending against using the existing Bryant site for a new grade school.
They say there's not enough room for expansion and it doesn't meet traffic needs.
"We expected that concept A and B would not neccessarily be recommended by the building oversight committee. We needed to hear some feedback from the board," Dr. Paul Gausman said.
The board hasn't ruled out using the Bryant site Superintendent Gausman says they're also studying the old Boys and Girls Home building on Court Street as a future location for a possible school.
