Shopper getting free carotid artery screening at Southern Hills Mall.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Going to the mall for shopping gets some people's hearts pumping. But an event at the Southern Hills Mall Saturday gave some a new reason to check it out. The mall partnered up with Mercy Medical Center to put on the "Paint the Mall Red" event.
It was designed to raise heart health awareness, in conjunction with February, heart month. As part of the event people were given free carotid artery screenings, blood pressure checks, and health tips.
A Zumba dance session was also held to burn calories. Organizers say the free screenings provided some with a wake up call.
"We have a couple of instances already people that have come in for carotid arteries screenings, they found something that might merit further some follow-up," Jim Wharton, Vice-President of Mercy Medical Center said.
About 400 people were expected to attend.
