Struve and the Orabs are 22-3 this season.
ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The Iowa boys state basketball tournament doesn't begin for another week.
But for the first time in his 33 years of drawing up the X's and O's, Sheldon Head Coach Claude Struve will be making his first appearance in De Moines.
Struve and the Orabs defeated Western Christian 64-57 in overtime to earn Sheldon's first
state tournament berth since 1977.
The Orabs held an eight point lead in the fourth quarter, but the Wolfpack closed the gap to force O-T.
Sheldon used 8 free throws in the extra time to clinch the win.
While Struve says it's all about the players, the players say it's all about their coach.
"It was really for him, actually," senior Dallas Ennema said. "He's a great man and everyone didn't respect him and he's just a great man."
"It feels really," Struve said. "But, it's all about the kids. The kids got the "W." They played hard, played great defense against a real good ball club. We're moving on. We're very happy."
The boys state tournament begins March 4. The Orabs will play Pella Christian in the opening round at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
