Folks in Correctionville, Iowa honored the memory of three men who died in a plane crash. It was a packed house Sunday for a pancake breakfast and silent auction to help the families of Gaylen Knaack, Lee Schroeder, and James Smith. The men were picking up supplies for a new grocery store in Correctionville when their plane crashed on a foggy night in December. One friend described the men as pillars of their community.
The fire marshal will be in Bronson, Iowa this week to investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed the Bronson Bar and Grill. It broke out about 5:30 Sunday morning. Authorities believe it started in the kitchen of the building that has stood for decades. Nobody was inside when the fire broke out. It took three area fire departments two hours to get the fire under control. Authorities do not suspect foul play, but they say it is likely a total loss.
Police in Norfolk, Nebraska are investigating a shooting that sent a person to the hospital. Officers were called to 701 South 2nd Street just after three a.m. Saturday where they found a person who had been shot in the abdomen. That person was taken to the hospital with a wound described as non-life-threatening. No arrests have been made. Authorities say they may release more details Monday.
Hundreds turned out for the third annual Gigi's Playhouse Gala and Dinner. Since 2009, Gigi's has helped children with Down's Syndrome at its Sioux City location. Playhouse leaders say they're excited about how quickly the program has grown, to the point where they now regularly have as many as 100 guests coming through.
