A snowmobile accident sends one person to the hospital and charges are filed against the driver

The Buena Vista County Sheriff Gary Launderville says on around 11:30 Friday night they were called to a snowmobile accident near C-49, east of Storm Lake.

He says the accident victim, 37-year-old Laura Wheeler-Plantz of Emmetsburg, had head and upper torso injuries.

She was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City for treatment.

Deputies say the driver, 27-year-old Brent Ulrich of Albert City, was intoxicated and had a concealed 9mm handgun with him.

The sheriff says while Ulrich did have a permit to carry the gun, it's not allowed when a person is intoxicated or while operating a snowmobile.

The sheriff says Ulrich is charged with OWI and carrying a concealed weapon, but says more charges are possible due to the severity of the Wheeler-Plantz's injuries.
