Alexis Conaway (#20) had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead MOC-FV past Mid-Prairie.
MOC-Floyd Valley turned in a solid defensive effort to open the Class 3A girls state basketball tournament.
The second-ranked Lady Dutch held No. 13 Mid-Prairie to 25 percent shooting and got a double-double from star Alexis Conaway in beating the Golden Hawks 51-30.
Conaway scored 17 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and added two blocks, three steals and two assists to her stat line. Emily McDonald scored 10 points for the Lady Dutch on 5-for-8 shooting, while Rylee Yaw had nine points, six rebounds and three steals.
MOC-Floyd Valley bolted to a 16-3 lead in the first 7 minutes, then kept the Golden Hawks at bay with its defense the rest of the way.
"I liked our ability to rebound and scrap in the second half when things weren't going well offensively," said MOC-FV head coach Gary Richardson. "Defensively, we were solid throughout. Only giving up 30 or so points is really a parmount effort on our part."
MOC-Floyd Valley, the state runner-up last year, improved to 24-1 and will play in a semifinal game at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Third-ranked Estherville Lincoln Central beat #9 Spirit Lake, 55-39, in an all-Siouxland matchup at the Class 3A girls state basketball tournament.
ELC built an 18-point lead in the second quarter before the Indians closed the gap to 29-20 at the half.
Casey Sievert led ELC with 18 points. Allie Sievert had 13 points and Sara Heywood added 12 as ELC improved to 22-3 on the season. Spirit Lake finishes at 16-9. Alissa Christoffer scored 16 point to pace Spirit Lake.
