SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- -
The Sioux City North boys earned a trip to the Iowa state basketball tournament with a 68-60 win over Sioux City East on Tuesday night.
The Stars led 32-27 at halftime and increased the lead to 48-40 after three quarters.
East came back to tie the game at 48 on a three-pointer from Blake Lynch. The 9th-ranked Black Raiders then took their first lead of the second half on a basket by senior Marcel Dunson, who led East with 18 points.
North countered with eight straight points, capped by a three-pointer from sophomore Daniel Tillo, who led all scorers with 21 points. The Stars earn a trip to state in Cody Fisher's first season as the head coach.
"When they interviewed me and said what's the expectation? I said 'make state'," said Fisher. "There's no reason why...we've got great talent here, tremendous young men and tonight showed, sometimes it might look like they are down and out but they find a way to get it done."
"That's our goal. We're not done yet. We want to win state," said Tillo. "That was our goal from the beginning. We knew we had the athletes and the players, that we could make it to state. We're not done yet."
All the other 4A substate games were postponed, so North's won't know who their opponent at state is until later in the week.
