East High students performing at "Sing All About It" choir competition.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Music was flowing out of the auditorium at East High School in Sioux City from morning till nightfall Saturday.
That's where nearly 800 students from 14 high schools gathered for the "Sing All About It" choir competition.
Students traveled from nearby like, Hinton, Sergeant Bluff, and far, like Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Lincoln, Nebraska.
Teams competed for six spots to get to the final competition, where one group will be crowned grand champion.
Awards were also given out for best male and female soloists.
As host for the event, East High's show choir groups performed but were not judged.
The event's co-chair says the event trains students for their aspirations beyond high school.
"I think performing prepares them for college our kids have good self esteem, they're very generous, they volunteer a lot, and being on that stage takes a lot of guts," Tami Daane, event co-chair said.
The event also helped raise funds for the East High choir program through ticket and snack sales.
