SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
One of the goals of Eyes Open Iowa is to empower parents to be the first teacher, when it comes to talking about sex.
Experts say to talk to your kids about your own morals and values. Set and explain expectations. They also encourage you to be honest and share your own mistakes with your kids.
"It should not be just a one shot deal, 'ok, tonight's the night we're going to have the talk'. It should be an ongoing talk from when they are very young until they are out of school, and even beyond. It's just a conversation that needs to keep going," explained Kirsten Colt, of the Siouxland Coalition to Prevent Teen Pregnancy
