Sioux City North is still looking for their first state tournament win since 1983. The 7th ranked Stars lost to unranked Cedar Falls, 57-46, in round one of the Class 4A tournament.
North shot just 24% in the first half and trailed 27-18 at halftime. Cedar Falls eventually built the lead to 14 points in the second half before the Stars made a furious comeback. Deontre Dean hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 45 with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers went on a 12-3 run from there and never trailed the rest of the way.
Daniel Tillo, the leading scorer in the state in Class 4A, had 14 points, eight points below his season average. Tillo also had eight rebounds to tie Robert Neustrom for team honors in that category. Carlos Elizalde, Deontre Dean and Xavier Scarlett each scored nine points.
Kalehl Brown had a game-high 23 points for Cedar Falls, who made 12 of 15 shots in the second half and shot 65% for the game.
The Stars end their season at 21-3, while Cedar Falls advances to the semifinals with a 20-4
record.
