The three companies competing for Woodbury County's land-based casino license undergo background checks. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation met behind closed doors Wednesday night in Johnston with members of the Racing and Gaming Commission. The DCI reported its findings on Ho-Chunk, Inc., Penn National Gaming, and Sioux City Entertainment. Agents aren't saying what they found, but they say they look at everything from corporate finances to criminal histories.
Iowa lawmakers have decided not to change state law dealing with traffic cameras. The chairman of the House Transportation committee wouldn't allow a vote on the measure. The bill would have taken money generated by traffic cameras away from cities and counties, and redirected it to the state's road fund.
Some South Dakota farmers are helping to feed the hungry, by donating nearly 10,000 eggs. For several years now, United Egg Producers have donated eggs to food pantries during the Easter season. Farmers say being able to give is just one part of their job.
A car repair shop and a hospital have teamed up in the name of car seat safety. Sioux Body Shop and St. Luke's Regional Medical Center are recycling car seats that are past their prime. Most seats are good for about five years, but officials say it's important to check the expiration date. Old car seats can be dropped off at the body shop at 501 West 8th Street, six days a week.
