Sheldon going to the Class 2A championship game after a 48-42 win over Kuemper on Thursday.
DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) -- -
Sheldon won their first game at the boys state basketball tournament since 1977 on Tuesday.
Now, the Orabs are going to the Class 2A championship game after a 48-42 win over Kuemper
Catholic on Thursday.
Dallas Ennema had 21 points and Chris Balster added 14 as the Orabs improved to 24-3. Sheldon shot 43% in the game but were 18-for-25 at the free throw line.
Sheldon led 26-20 at halftime and still led by six going to the fourth quarter. The Orabs held
the Knights to just 29% shooting for the game and kept their dream of a state championship
alive for head coach Claude Struve, who is retiring after the season after 33 years on the
job.
"If I wrote a book, I couldn't write it any better," Struve said. "Here's what I want to tell you. High school sports is about kids, it's not about the coaches. I'm going to retire and it's all good and done, but these kids deserve the attention, not me. But it does feel good."
The 2A title game against number-1 West Fork (26-0) will be at 8:05 on Friday night.
