DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) -- -
The Dutchmen of MOC-Floyd Valley were beaten by unranked Harlan, 45-42, in the semifinals of
the Class 3A boys state basketball tournament on Thursday.
After beating top-ranked Vinton-Shellsburg in round one, Harlan improved to 20-6 by knocking
off the ninth-ranked Dutch.
MOC-FV trailed 20-19 at halftime and 33-32 after three quarters. Harlan's Adam Juhl made two
free throws with under five seconds left to give the Cyclones a three point lead. Levi
Jansen's desperation shot at the buzzer hit the rim, but didn't beat the buzzer.
The Dutch were led in scoring by Trey Achterfhoff's 18 points. No other MOC-FV player was in
double figures as the Dutch shot 40% from the field and made just 3 of 10 free throws.
"Just a hard fought game," said MOC-Floyd Valley Coach Loren De Jong. "I mean, if the game
goes another minute, maybe we win. So...two tough teams and I'm proud of our kids."
MOC-Floyd Valley (21-5) will play in the 3A consolation game at 12:05 on Friday.
